I was talking to some friends the other day about selling websites, wordpress themes and in particular custom designed premium themes. (and you thought musicians were all about sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll)
I’ve been helping a bass player friend setup and sell websites online and yes even a bass player can learn this stuff!
When the conversation turned to themes and in particular the style of theme that you see everyone using for zero traffic sites on flippa, I decided to prove a point buy firing up the macbook and heading over to flippa’s just sold section to run a little test.
Guess what we found? Almost every site that sold for next to nothing was on what I call the “bells and whistle themes”. You know the one, lots of pretty pictures and overloaded with affiliate offers, adsense adds, and amazon products. It seems that every single inch of space has to be populated with offers.
The thing is, these sites did sell well, but they just don’t work anymore.
If you have a look at flippa’s just sold section, you will notice how the big money making sites do one thing and do it well.
Take note of how most of these sites use simple themes that are free from clutter. There’s a reason for that. It works! You should be copying these sites and not the “bells and whistle, pretty picture sites”.
The beauty with wordpress is the admin section. It is simple to navigate and easy to teach someone (buyers) how to use it and in turn manage their site.
Today it is all about traffic and sales. If your site has both, bingo!
It’s not that hard to add value to a site. You just need to invest time, build trffic and the returns will come when it’s time to sell.

Whilst I am impressed that you can show a Bass player as an example of ease of use I feel that to be totally convincing you would have to get a drummer to do it!
Find it hard to believe a bass player could do this, you will be saying drummers can use ebay next
